Heartsong is a group of inspired artists focused on performing from the heart. We are upfront that our company does not compete. Our goal is to honor the expression, integrity, and art of dance and to promote the growth of each of our dancers.

Created to give dancers more
Heartsong was created to give dancers more. More performances, more choreography, more styles, more responsibility, and more art. Dance is an art form first, and we respect its athletic side while protecting the artistry that gets lost when dance is treated only as a sport. We want dancers to grow in technique and to grow as artists who can create and express on their own and as a company. Each year we build opportunities that develop our dancers as dancers and as young adults.

Does Heartsong compete?
No. We are upfront about it. We believe dancing to win limits what a performance can be, so our focus is the expression, integrity, and art of dance.
What classes are required?
Heartsong dancers train year-round. Summer includes the Heartsong Dance Intensive plus at least two classes per session. Fall and spring are two ballet classes a week, plus one tap and one jazz.
When are rehearsals?
Saturday mornings, usually 9am to noon or 1pm.
What is the attendance policy?
Dancers attend every scheduled rehearsal. If you have to miss one, tell the directors in writing more than a week ahead. Missing more than two Saturdays in a semester, September to December or January to April, means being pulled from some or all pieces. Dress rehearsals are mandatory, and a missed dress rehearsal counts as a missed performance. Dancers practice choreography at home between rehearsals, and we post practice videos to our group BAND. If you miss a rehearsal, catch up with a fellow dancer before the next one.
What does it cost?
Dues are one monthly payment, made August through May, and cover Saturday rehearsals, guest choreography, costume rental, required company performance wear, masterclasses, and winter and spring concert and showcase costs. Convention entry, solo choreography, and travel are billed separately. A convention runs about $315, plus group entry fees that average about $50 per dance. Dancers usually take one to three dances.
