Creative Movement
These classes are one hour in length and designed for 3-4 year olds. While introducing basic concepts of dance through fun encounters with tap, ballet, and tumbling, they also aim to develop motor skills, spatial awareness, and creativity. Creative images and hands-on props are often used to help introduce children to dance techniques.
- Ballet/Tap Combo – These classes are one hour in length and designed for 5-6 year
olds. Each class includes ballet and tap instruction. Emphasis on technique, body alignment, rhythm and flexibility begins at this level.
- Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combo– These classes are one and a half hours in length and designed
for 7-10 year olds. Each class includes ballet, tap, and an introduction to jazz dance. Emphasis on technique, body alignment, rhythm and flexibility continues to develop at this level.
- Musical Theater – These classes are one hour in length and emphasize theatrical dance,
as well as singing and acting techniques and games. Production numbers/scenes are learned in class and performed each month for observers.
- Drill Team Prep – These classes are one hour in length and designed for ages 10+ who
have an interest in being on their school drill/dance teams. Emphasis is placed on developing technique and flexibility while also teaching different types of routines, audition techniques, poise and showmanship.
- Hip-Hop - This hour long class revolves around a contemporary style of street dance.
- Lyrical - This hour long class combines the techniques of ballet and jazz to create a
smooth, contemporary style of dancing. Technique, exercises, and combinations are reviewed weekly.
- Advanced Combo – Greater Austin Dance Academy believes that the best dancers are
well-rounded dancers. Therefore, these classes are designed for the serious dancers ages 10+. Within the two and a half hour class (advanced level is three and a half hours), classes are taught in ballet, tap, and jazz. Students must be placed by the director in these classes. - Extra Ballet - This artistic dance form is characterized by grace and precision of
movement and an elaborate formal technique. Developing body alignment, posture, working flexibility, strength and coordinating movement are all stressed at this time. Ballet is the core upon which all other dance forms are built. Therefore, students wishing to take jazz classes or be in the company MUST be enrolled in at least one ballet class each week. Students wishing to be on Pointe MUST take at least TWO ballet classes per week. The extra ballet class is an hour and a half in length.
- Pointe - This subject is an extension of ballet for intermediate to advanced dancers.
Pointe class must be taken in conjunction with TWO ballet classes. It is an hour in length.
